This summer Mary's bedroom became a guest room to a family with two toddler boys. Mary quickly took things from her drawers and tossed them into boxes to make space for their belongings. After about 10 weeks of guests, she emptied some of the boxes into her drawers but she had also removed things from her room over the summer and acquired new things.
Overwhelmed, she has decided to organize her room. The is a great opportunity to learn how to sort and let go of what she no longer uses, and to make space for the things she uses all the time. She started with one box. Going through it she discovered embroidered monogrammed hankies that belonged to her grandmother, Margaret Tuttle. Some had MT, some Margaret, others had Margaret Tuttle, and many just had M on them. Earlier this year grandmother had moved into a senior independent living center. Mary received some costume jewelry and the hankies, among things. She decided to put the jewelry in a dress-up box. Then we decided we would make a lap quilt for grandma affixing the hankies to quilt squares and sewing the squares into the quilt. However, the ones with just an M on them we decided to make into a quilt for her room.
